A Friend of God

01.01.14 | Spiritual growth | by Wayne Holcomb

Whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4

James tells us in in chapter 4, verse 4, that whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. In our most recent study of Revelation 2:12-17 (December 29, 2013 sermon) we learn some important lessons.

    1. As a people, we cannot live on the fence

    2. As a church, we are to practice what we believe

    3. As a family, we hold to God's assurance as conquerors

As a people we live in a world where Satan is prince and God is sovereign and there is no fence ... we are either in or we are out.

As a church it's not enough for us to just be doctrinally sound ... we have to be morally pure. If there are some holding to the teaching of Balaam or the Nicolaitans ... holding to truth while living a lie; it is better for you to be confronted ... by the Word of God now than to come under the judgment of God's Word later. The meanest thing we can do is let you continue in your sin making no effort to bring you to repentance. That is ecclesiastical malpractice.

As a family we encourage one another and all the more as we see the day approaching. As we experience the hidden manna the world knows nothing about we look forward to the white stone that bears our new name ... that is given by the Father to all who are conquers who are victorious all the way to the end.

This new year it is my hope that you will be resolved as a people, a church, and a family to live each day to the glory of our Lord, as living sacrifices, holy, acceptable...this is your reasonable service (worship). Romans 12:1-2
